Three security officers at Wuhu Shipyard were killed when strong winds caused a gantry crane to topple onto a security post in the Chinese shipyard.

A press statement released by Anhui Province’s Emergency Management Department said that in the incident on 10 June, around 9.20 pm local time, winds reached force 12, blowing over the 450-tonne crane.

Wuhu Shipyard, known for building tankers and bulk carriers, is in Wuhu in Anhui province. The shipbuilder was acquired by compatriot car maker Chery after emerging from bankruptcy protection in December 2007.

The crane fell onto a security guard post in the shipyard, crushing it and killing three officers inside.
