In the Port of Melbourne, container volume was down year on year in December. The total container throughput of the Australian port decreased by 5.2% in the last month of 2022, compared with the same month in 2021, reaching 261,334 TEUs.Port of Melbourne noted that furniture, metal construction, domestic appliances, various food preparations, paperboard, toys & sporting goods, and electrical machinery were all down compared with the previous year’s numbers.
Furthermore, total foreign shipments in December were down 4.3% from December 2021, with straw and feed, wine, and dry milk all falling below year-ago levels.
Moreover, total empty container movements were 2.1% lower than in December 2021.
